Educations Costs

Vocational Education and Training (Certificates I to IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) – $12,000 to $14,000
Undergraduate Bachelor Degree– $15,000 to $30,000
Postgraduate Masters Degree– $18,000 to $25,000

Cost of Living

An international student spends an average of $600-800 per month towards living expenses.

The student has to pay his/her first semester fees compulsorily to the school or university he/she is willing to take admission in when the visa process is going on. For instance, if the annual fee is $14,000 then the student will have to pay the half amount of the annual fees i.e. $7,000 for the first semester which has the duration of 6 months.

During the starting process of visa, the student is asked to deposit $10,000 in the form of G.I.C in Canada Scotia Bank to prove that he/she has an expense for them to maintain for a year. The Canadian Immigration for International Students has set living expenses which are $840 per month, so the annual expense is set for $10,000.

Funding your Studies (G.I.C.)

To apply for a study permit under the SPP in India, you must purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (“GIC”) in the amount of $10,000 Canadian Dollars (“CAD”). Students applying for a study permit outside of the SPP (e.g., for university study) may also purchase a GIC to act as proof of funds to cover their living expenses for the first year of their stay in Canada. You can purchase this GIC from Nova Scotia Bank or ICICI Bank Canada.

A GIC is a secure investment account ( like a Fixed Deposit in India) that guarantees the full amount of your original investment and the interest on your money over a pre-determined, fixed time frame. You will receive a portion of your investment plus interest every month for a 12 month period. You can use these funds to help pay for living expenses while you’re studying in Canada. You will have received your full investment of $10,000 CAD at the end of 12 months.

Student Work Rights

• International students are eligible to work up to 20 hours a week while school is in session, and can work full time during vacations / scheduled breaks.
• The spouse of a student cannot work if they have travelled to the Canada on a dependent visa.
• Students can expect a wage rate of $12 to $14 per hour for a part time job depending on job profile and industry. So a student can expect to earn an average of $960 to $1120 Per Month.

Post Study Work Rights

• A student is offered different work permits according to his/her study program.
• If your course duration is less than 2 years but more than 8 months, you will be eligible for work permit for a period no longer than the length of your program of study.
• If your course duration is 2 years or more, you may be eligible for a work permit for up to 3 years.

All International students need to obtain a Student Authorization and a Visa before going for their studies to Canada but they also need to meet the requirements of the Canadian Immigration Act and Regulations.
