UK’s centralized university application system, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), noticed a total of 4,470 Indian students and a hike a 36% in applications for undergraduate courses in UK universities later this year. Despite Theresa May’s tough stance on immigration for students to study in the UK, the figures are a good news. Although these figures do not reflect the number of applicants already making it to the UK universities, they, however, show Indian students’ interest in the UK as a study abroad destination. The UCAS figures also revealed a hike in EU students registering to UK universities. An overall of more than 1,00,000 EU and non-EU students have applied for enrollment at UK universities. Citing the reason for this hike, Helen Thorne, UCAS Director of External Relations said, “The UK’s universities are highly popular with EU and international students because of the quality of the teaching and experience they offer. There are probably several factors influencing the increasing numbers of applicants from the EU and beyond.” British PM Theresa May was seen getting softer on immigration stance.
